Job Description
- To manage and develop the Financial Institutions business for the Northern African market.
- To assist the Senior Relationship Manager for North Africa / Regional Head of Financial Institutions MENA in driving Wholesale Banking Governance for these countries in line with WB Governance responsibilities delegated by the Regional Head of Origination & Client Coverage MENA.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- To assist the Senior Relationship Manager for Northern Africa with preparation of Credit Applications / CDD’s
- To liaise with clients in Northern Africa for business, utilization of approved lines and completion of CDD’s / Credit Applications and liaise with credit for approvals.
- To monitor portfolio quality pertaining to Northern Africa & NPC portfolio on an ongoing basis and coordinate regular updates to credit.
- To stay up to date with regulatory and other developments in Northern Africa / NPC and disseminate these as appropriate.
- Pro-actively establishes, develops and maintains a portfolio of corporate clients within business unit’s target market, ensuring that new relationships or ongoing requirements of existing clients attain maximum revenue within acceptable risk profile requirements by carrying out detailed financial analysis of the client accounts and develops proposals within defined Bank procedures that meet the client needs. Further adopts appropriate relationship management strategies to protect the Bank's interests at all times, e.g., potential default, and to meet the clients' expectations of the relationship.
- Markets to existing and potential clients the full complement of products and services offered by the Bank, including Global Markets, Consumer Banking and Wealth Management and promotes within Standard Chartered Group opportunities by referring potential relationships to other countries in order that SCB may benefit on a Group basis.
- Cross-selling of bank’s products through joint calling with product partners.
- Identifies potential default accounts through account management, investigates the cause of concern through closer management of such accounts, and recommends appropriate remedial action to the Regional Head.
- Monitors and places on file all necessary reports, including early-alert report, excesses, and approval conditions implicit in this area of accountability.
- Ensures that all related administrative functions, most importantly file maintenance, including regular stock inspections, call reports, periodic appraisals, are performed in a timely manner.
- Guides, counsels, and advises Assistant Relationship Managers in their support duties
- Provides management information to the Regional Head on a regular, as-and-when-required basis, on matters relating to their own portfolio’s status of accounts, excesses, irregular securities, defaulting accounts, and exceptions.
- Ensure compliance to Group Operational Risk Policy, Anti-Money Laundering Prevention policy and other relevant policies. Cooperate with the Money Laundering Prevention Officers (Unit, Business, and Country) to ensure compliance to internal and external controls and procedures for money laundering prevention.
- Where appropriate, assist in the investigation of financial crime risks and the reporting of suspicious activities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Sound knowledge of Financial Institutions Credit and CDD procedures.
- Significant experience as a Corporate Relationship Manager
- Sound knowledge of FI products including Trade Finance, Capital Markets, Lending, Transaction Banking and Financial Markets.
- Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
- Ability to make sound business decisions to conclude routine tasks in compliance in accordance with the banks laid down policies and procedures.
- Understanding of the Bank operations, products, policies, regulations and risk management on a local and regional level preferred.
- An understanding of the Northern African market would be hugely beneficial.
- Fluent in both English and Arabic language skills preferred.
