Position Summary:

The Manager- Development & Production for Discovery will be responsible for working with the Sr. Director of Development & Production and development team to coordinate the overall development process for the network to meet business initiatives, standards for quality, value, and innovation. He/She will also be responsible for providing Coordinating Producer support by serving as the key partner to assigned shows by providing creative, administrative, and editorial support on series.

Responsibilities:

Development

1. Coordinate tracking of submissions, concepts and pilots in development to ensure projects deliver on editorial expectations — and work with research department as necessary to test pilot concepts. Ensure information flow and editorial integrity during all phases of development from conception to production.
2. Field calls and questions – both solicited and unsolicited – from outside producers regarding proposals and the network’s programming needs. Regular communication with producers to gather and review development information: budgets, sample tapes, proposal revisions, production schedules etc. Maintain relationships with production community.
3. Conduct initial review of projects under consideration.
4. Offer editorial input on projects in development. Attend group development meetings.
5. Write editorial briefs and requests for proposals.
6. Perform competitive network and content research.
7. Strategize with team on new categories for future opportunities.

Production

1. As assigned, take the lead in providing editorial feedback to outside producers following evaluation of production schedules, treatments, rough cuts, fine cuts, and other materials, under supervision of VP, EP or Producer. Safeguard quality and accuracy of DCI brands and standards, ensuring that executives’ creative and strategic visions are being met by production partners.
2. On occasion, travel to field shoots and provide on-location production services such as editorial input, story research, recce/location scouting, grip, talent wrangler, etc.
3. Coordinate and manage special projects such as internal/external presentation tapes for industry markets/events, quarterly tapes, corporate functions, etc.
4. Facilitate program fixes (changes in narration, graphics, picture, and audio) as needed

Requirements:

*Must have 5+ years development and production experience.

*Bachelor’s degree in related field of study.

*Exceptional research skills along with strong marketplace knowledge.

*Verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, prioritization, organizational, managerial, and analytical skills.

*Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

*Must have the legal right to work in the US.
