Research Intern - BBC Media Action in Dar es Salaam
Job Title: Research Intern, Tanzania
Location: Tanzania
Reports to: Research Officer
Contract duration: 12 months (with possible extension)
Salary: Competitive within Tanzanian NGO market rates
Main Duties
• Ensure close follow up of the local partner stations and national programme producers on the submission of weekly database reports
• Translation of the programme database content information which includes all the mobile phone messages, face book messages, and tweeter messages
• Ensure data entry of both local and national resilience information into the local and National databases
• Follow up on the weekly resilience programmes for content analysis
• Assist in compiling and updating the mentors training database on a weekly basis
• Assist research team on carrying out resilience research field works as required
• Conduct and provide weekly research memos for the Resilience team on weekly shows
• Monitor, summarizing and answering, when needed, the SMS messages coming in from Resilience programme Listeners
• Liaise with mentors to gather project information from the field
• Perform any other duties as requested
Required knowledge, skills and experience
• A university graduate with proven experience or interest of working in the field of research
• Fluency in English and Swahili.
• Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff within the Trust and key stakeholders externally.
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation, including relevant staff working for the BBC in the UK.
• Proven research skills and the ability to operate effectively on the Country Management Team.
• Willingness and ability to take the initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing solutions.
• An eye for detail and a concern for accuracy, together with the ability to keep sight of the broad picture.
