Universities in North Carolina founded RTI in 1958 as the first scientific organization in and centerpiece of Research Triangle Park.RTI International is currently seeking qualified applicants to foil the position of Epidemiologist/Public Health Specialist for the Tanzania Vector Control Scale-up (TVCS) project, part of a large regional support program funded by the US President Malaria Initiative (PMI) through USAID. This position will be based in Mwanza Tanzania.

Overall Purpose:

The Epidemiologist Public Health Specialist will be responsible to lead implementation of malaria surveillance activities in Tanzania mainland (Lake zone) as planned in collaboration with Ministry of Health and social welfare through National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), the integrated disease surveillance and response (IDRS) and U.S Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC). She/he will be responsible for overall technical guidance and supervision of the malaria epidemic early detection system (MEEDS), Monitoring Parasitemia Prevalence and Malaria epidemic preparedness and response plan. This involves advanced epidemiological knowledge and capacity to operate computer databases. He/she will also coordinate with the Senior Epidemiologist and Zone Manager to ensure provision of adequate technical support.

Responsibilities:

Malaria epidemic preparedness and response

Conduct Epidemiological surveillance in Health Facilities in the Lake zone.

Monitoring Parasitemia Prevalence among pregnant Women and Children in 60 Reproductive

Child Health (RCH) Sites in the Lake zone

Malaria Epidemic Early Detection System (MEEDS) in Lake Zone and Dar es Salaam

Required Qualification and Experience:

Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years' experience or a Master's Degree plus three (3) years' experience in epidemiological analysis and modeling, preferably in an international setting in the developing world.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use advanced data base and statistical analysis software (MS Access, SAS, STATA . Epic Info, SPSS, etc.).

Ability to conduct epidemiology mathematical modeling.

Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to perform multiple task simultaneously, namely the priority activities and ability to work independently.

Knowledge of USAIO rules and regulations a plus.

Competence in program management and proven ability to work in effective communication with customers, partners and other public health professionals.

Knowledge of appropriate method for the analysis of data and strong experience in writing technical reports, culturally astute, respectful and tolerant.

Demonstrated success managing and leading technical and administrative teams.
