Job Title:Electronic Instrumentation Technician (One Post)

Position Description
The Tea Research Institute of Tanzania (TRIT) was established in 1996 as an autonomous organization representing the Government of Tanzania and the tea industry. Its duty is to support the continued development of the tea industry, both large and small scale producers, with appropriate high quality, cost effective research and technology transfer. It is funded by both public and private and by grant aid from willing donors. TRIT invites suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions,

The candidate will be reporting directly to the Chief laboratory Technician.

Qualification

Holders of Full Technician Certificate Grade I or equivalent in the area of electricity or electronics coupled with hands on experience in maintaining/repairing electronic instruments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate among others will be responsible mainly in maintaining/repairing sophisticated electronic laboratory instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), Gas Chromatograph (GC), High Pressure Liquid Chromatography HPLC, Flow Injection Analyzer (FIA), and Near UV/Visible Spectrophotometer.

To install, maintain, repair, overhaul, calibrate and tests a wide variety of laboratory instruments that are installed or will be brought at TRIT soils and plant analytical laboratory when required.

Troubleshoots electrical wiring and installation at various facilities installed and TRIT headquarters including water pumps, standby generator sets, computer servers, modems and other electrical equipments

To make periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all electrical instruments, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, calibrates and adjusts as conditions indicate.

To respond to emergencies related to electrical fault at any of the facilities and instruments installed at Ngwazi Tea Research Station.

Duration

Two years renewable contract.

Duty Station

TRIT operates at two locations: Ngwazi Tea Research Station, Mafinga, Mufindi District, Iringa Region on the shores of the scenic lake Ngwazi and Marikitanda Tea Research Station located near Amani in Muheza District, Tanga Region. TRIT also has an Extension Services Unit based in Tukuyu and Lupembe in Rungwe and Njombe Districts respectively.
