Org. Setting and Reporting

The post is located in the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), ICTR Branch, Arusha. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Trial Attorney and the general supervision of the Officer in Charge/Senior Legal Officer.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Draft routine correspondence and reports;
2. Transcribe from tapes, direct dictation or handwritten drafts English and French documents, reports, letters, memoranda, speeches and other material. Correct and edit text according to the changes indicated by the proof-reader. Check completed work for quality of presentation and proofread for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.;
3. Provide secretarial support to staff members of the trial team;
4. Maintain a log of work produced and provide statistics as required. Respond to enquiries regarding the status of tasks and the expected date of completion;
5. Assist the team to schedule and arrange meetings and assist in taking notes during these meetings;
6. Maintain files of rules, regulations, administrative instructions, correspondence and other related documentation in a proper filing system;
7. Assist members of the trial team with their travel arrangements on missions;
8. Photocopy and distribute reports and other documents;
9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Professionalism: Ability to perform a broad range of secretarial and administrative functions and very good knowledge of relevant operational and administrative policies, practices and procedures including records management/filing procedures. Very good knowledge of UN office procedures. Excellent typing and computer skills. Telephone/receptionist skills. Very good drafting and editing skills. Experience dealing with confidential information. Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training in the field of secretarial functions, administration or related area would be an added advantage.

Work Experience

At least four years of experience in administrative and/or secretarial services, including relevant experience acquired within the United Nations common system or other similar international organization. Relevant experience at an international criminal tribunal is desirable.

Languages
Fluency in English and French (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment Method

Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a written assessment which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

Special Notice
The appointment is limited to the Mechanism. Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.
