Description

Cluster strategic sourcing of Commodities (Tropical Oils, Liquids Oils, Sugar, Starches, Dairy and Cocoa) in the Africa cluster, to meet Unilever’s sustainable, profitable growth strategy to 2020. This will entail working closely with the global networks and key supplier relationships.
The main objectives of the role will be to transform the way we do business in this cluster to support the ambitious Grow Africa agenda, applying a rigorous strategic sourcing approach leveraging Partner to Win relationships.



Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for the Africa Commodities material and supply strategies
- Work closely with the Grow Africa procurement operations team, developing and delivering the commitments of the G20 LOI
- Pioneer new ways to “Partner to Win” with Unilever’s key suppliers to unlock long term value from the supply base, across Cost & Cash, Sustainable Sourcing, Capacity for Growth and Innovation.
- Lead the transformation of Unilever’s approach to and relationships with its Africa supply base
- Safeguard Unilever’s corporate reputation through rigorous application of Unilever’s Supplier Code of Conduct for the Commodities portfolio (including compliance with Responsible Sourcing and Supplier Quality standards, and supply according to approved global material specifications)
- Lead the delivery of the sustainable sourcing roadmap for each of the commodities materials in Africa
- Engage and ensure input and support from a wide range of internal stakeholders across multiple functions, especially procurement (CPLT, Global Category Operations and Sustainable Sourcing), R&D (RDCs and MET globally) and strategic internal customers (Category SC and Brand Development)
- Become fully operational in Commodities material and market understanding, providing close link and input into the commodities global networks, Unilever’s Commodity Risk Management (CRM) strategies and Unilever Price Forecasting (Phoenix), as well as acting as Unilever’s key point of contact for portfolio material and supply knowledge for Africa
- Lead the Commodities procurement network in Africa, and provide portfolio link and representation to the Commodities Procurement Leadership Team (CPLT). Ensure close link to the global material networks, ensuring timely input and support in developing and executing the global material strategies.
Key Deliverables
- Material Supply Strategies for Commodities in the Africa cluster, leveraging the global material and Grow Africa strategies
- Delivery of Commodities Africa Partner to Win objectives across:
o Sustainability (Roadmap to 2020)
o Cost and Cash (in year / next year Cost Savings, Cost Avoidance and strategic Cash/Working Capital initiatives)
o Capacity & Capability (develop new, long term sustainable sources of supply)
o Operational Excellence (Compliance, Specifications and Complexity reduction)
ESSENTIAL
· 5-10 years previous experience in materials or services Procurement , delivered successful strategic sourcing initiatives and track record of developing strong partnerships (supplier and internal stakeholder)
· Experience leading or part of large-scale change management projects
· Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, and confidence to engage and lead senior level relationships (internally and externally)
· Creative mindset to deliver pioneering ideas with outstanding execution
· Delivered entrepreneurial approach to problem solving, a passion for sustainable sourcing, and an ability to connect inside and outside Unilever.
PREFERRED
· Experience and/or passion for working in Africa region
· Knowledge of agricultural supply markets and sustainable sourcing (including smallholder development)
Regular travel in Africa, especially in West and East Africa, together with some international travel for network meetings (Europe and Singapore). Overall 30-40% of time spent outside of the office
