We are looking for an Information Architect to work within BP IT Department (IT&SiF) that supports the Corporate Functions (Head Office) in the development of an information architecture strategy and approach. This will include structured data and unstructured information for the key corporate Functions. The role will also support the delivery of major projects by providing leadership in best practice and high level assurance.
As the Information Architect, you will provide thought leadership, strategy and governance ensuring that the architecture can be implemented within the existing constraints and according to the agreed architectural principles and standards.
Key accountabilities Provide leadership in enterprise information architecture for BP Corporate Functions covering both structured and unstructured information.
Work with business and IT stakeholders to develop information architecture strategies for key Functions to support the business objectives including current, transitional and target states.
Responsible for developing, maintaining, and leveraging the appropriate enterprise data standards, roadmaps, data models to support the delivery of business strategy.
Understanding of the enterprise data / information needs for all key Functions.
Development and maintenance of high level enterprise data models, data technology/integration/Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence architectures.
Definition of approach for handling unstructured information.
Communicate the data architecture strategies, roadmaps to all stakeholders.
Build close working relationships with other strategic architects within other IT&S Teams including the Enterprise Systems (ES), Global Operations & Infrastructure (GOI) and EA.
Provide necessary support & advice to the Project Lead Architects to ensure understanding and implementation of best practice.
For key projects, provide architectural assurance for the acquisition, integration, enrichment, optimisation and exploitation of structured and unstructured data.
Review the information/data architecture documentation for key projects.
Essential Education University degree or equivalent.
Essential experience and job requirements Played a key role within an Enterprise Data / Information Architecture team within a large corporation ideally covering multiple countries.
Experienced in developing information architecture strategies, MI / reporting strategies and roadmaps at an organisation or department level.
Experienced in delivering data architectures for large complex projects operating in distributed technical environment.
Experienced in implementing Data Governance solutions including Master Data Management.
Proven ability to influence key stakeholders.
Can demonstrate ability to think and communicate the big picture.
Have data analysis skills (to build / maintain the models) and an awareness of records management i.e. data retention, legal hold, e-Discovery, lifecycle management, archiving, storage optimisation.
Experience in corporate head office Functions environment (such as Finance, Tax, HR) or awareness of general head office business process.
Experience in architecting solutions utilising ETL tools (e.g. Informatica) and Reporting tools (e.g. Business Objects).
Desirable criteria & qualifications Experience in delivering information architecture solutions with a value of >$3 -5m.
TOGAF 9 certified.
DAMA certification would be beneficial.
Exposure to big data / predictive analytics concepts would be an added advantage.

Role synopsis IT&S in the Functions (IT&SiF) provides IT services to BP’s Corporate Functions such as Finance, HR, Indirect Procurement, Tax, Communications and others. IT&SiF are responsible for delivery of a portfolio of projects of over c$100m annually with some projects in the portfolio with high profiles and have high visibility to senior stakeholders within the organisation.
Working as part of IT&SiF’s Strategy, Planning & Architecture (SPA) team, the Project Lead Architect will work across project lifecycles and will be accountable for all aspects of the solution architecture. The Architect will have the overall design authority on projects and be responsible for ensuring the completeness (fitness-for-purpose) of the architecture.
The Architect will work closely with the project manager and business to turn business requirements into technical solutions. The architect will steer the project through architecture processes including agreeing architecture deliverables, quality assuring the project technical outputs and arranging & coordinating Design Reviews at appropriate stages of the projects lifecycle.
Key accountabilities • Hold overall design authority on projects and accountable for all aspects of the solution architecture.
• Produce high quality architecture documentation and outputs in line with BP’s Architecture Common Process (ACP) and Design to Operate standards.
• Perform quality assurance and architecture approval of project technical deliverables from 3rd Party or Integration Partners
• Ensure solution alignment with Functions strategies and roadmaps including alignment to Functions Bill-of-IT’s
• Drive compliance to IT&S Standards within solutions and see through any exceptions.
• Proactively identify and effectively mitigate all architectural risks
• Participate in project RFI/RFP’s by providing architectural criteria and undertaking validation & assessment of vendor responses
• Interface with the wider architecture community including BP’s Enterprise Systems, Enterprise Architecture & Segment Architecture teams
• Play an active role in the Architecture & Design community through Give Back (peer reviews etc) and other contributions to the development of the practice.
Essential Education • University degree or specialised training or equivalent work experience.

Role synopsis The Strategy and Operational Excellence Strategy and Architecture (S&A) organisation is the BP centre of excellence for strategy, innovation and all aspects of IT architecture and architecture capability. The purpose is to standardise and simplify BP’s IT&S solutions, to reduce costs, deliver reliable and efficient systems and to enable BP’s business strategy.
The team has a high profile in IT&S and has enjoyed considerable success reaching the finals of the BP Helios Awards in 2010.
The Solution Architect, reporting to the Head of Solution Architecture has the following accountabilities and responsibilities:
1 – Lead and participate in the architectural assurance of all IT projects in excess of $10m lifetime spend
2- Assist in the Delivery of true Enterprise Wide Architectures as required. Examples would be Identity and Access Management or Mobile.
3 – Participate n in a programme to establish new solution architecture capability
4 – as required lead or consult on key projects and/or resolution to critical risks. A current example would be the architectural design for single sign on
5 – Participate in a programme of continuous improvement of solution architecture by establishing a solution architecture community, harvesting projects for assets, the solution architecture process and tools
To achieve these goals the candidate should have the following capabilities:
• Operate in a highly collaborative way. All aspects of the role require working with and building relationships with senior leaders, project staff and delivery teams in BP and with vendors and suppliers
• Have good organisational and planning skills to ensure architecture reviews are performed on time and at a high level of quality for every project
• Be influential – BP is a highly federated organisation and the deliverables will require the individual to influence other areas outside of direct control to adopt methods, change their architectures, etc
• Have good experience as a solution architect and use of architecture methods, tools and intellectual capital in order to hold credibility with projects
Key accountabilities Lead the architectural assurance of all CIO-level projects ($10m+ lifetime spend).
- Lead or participate in the execution of architecture reviews of all Group CIO projects in collaboration with Project delivery and Digital Security

- Harvest best practices and knowledge from projects and feed these back into the solution architectural process and supporting intellectual capital
Participate in the delivery of enterprise wide architectures.
